Science Cabaret: Editing Our Evolution: Rewriting the Human Genome

Could it help cure cancers? What’s all the hype about? Is it safe?

This special edition of Science Cabaret will be an opportunity to chat with several scientists on the topic of human genome editing. In this rapidly advancing field, there are many questions about the techniques of genome editing and their potential applications. There is both excitement and concern.

What is genome editing? Genome editing describes a range of techniques that make it possible to alter a selected part of the genome in a living cell by removing or changing existing elements or adding new ones. A genome is all of a living thing’s genetic material. It is the entire set of hereditary instructions for building, running, and maintaining an organism, and passing life on to the next generation.

This program will be forum-style with small group conversations led by a member of the Sciencenter Education team. All are welcome, just bring your curiosity and questions!

With biophysicist Guillaume Lambert, evolutionary biologist Michael Sheehan, and molecular biologist Maki Inada, along with members of their labs.

This event is generously sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Admission is free and includes complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and appetizers. A cash bar will be available.

RSVP today!

Museum exhibits are not open during this program.
